Hi David
Mr Garrioch was headmaster when I started at Aberdour School and Mrs Garrioch was my P1 teacher! Rev Charles Birnie and indeed Rev Adams were before my time but oddly enough we've had a second Rev Charles Birnie in more recent years.Thank's so much for getting in touch!

The Garriochs were at the Schollhouse while "Porky" Adams was in the Manse. I found your link while looking at Harry Birnie's Wiki entry. Walter and Harry's father was minister before Mr Adams and are buried in the Old Kirkyard.

:)Many thanks to all who have worked to create this interesting and informative site. I wish I had found it before we travelled to Aberdour in July last year but having visited the area so much is of greater interest on the site . My great grandfather was George WHYTE, who emigrated to Canterbury New Zealand in 1856 and is possible he was a descendant of the Whytes of Ardlawhill. In the description of the Parish by the Rev Adams 1952 there is reference to the oldest flatstone being a headstone for John WHYTE of Ardlawhill.I had read about it when researching the WHYTE family but was not able to find last year when I visit. Can anyone confirm the stone's location ? My thanks also to those in the community who care for the old church site. It was very special to have visited and to see it being maintained so well.
Ka kite ano ( will see /visit again)from New Zealand.
