New Aberdour

New Aberdour is an 18th century 'planned village' in Aberdeenshire. It lies just south of the Moray Firth coast, 7 miles (11 km) west of Fraserburgh. It was founded in 1798 to replace a former kirktown and comprises a long main street that stretches southward from a road junction.

Aberdour Hall

Aberdour Public Hall was officially opened by Lord Aberdeen in 1892. The fine tower with clock was added later - thanks to a donation of £200 left in the will of Mr Alex Lovie. Over the years the hall has been improved greatly and it is now used for a wide variety of functions.

Pennan

Formerly a fishing village, Pennan became famous in the 1980s for being used as one of the main locations for the film Local Hero, and representing the fictional village of Ferness. Film enthusiasts have come from all over the world to make a phone call in the red telephone box which featured in the film.

Auchmedden Church

Auchmedden Church (built in 1884 as a 'Chapel of Ease') at Pennan is still used for occasional services, weddings and funerals.

The parish of New Aberdour encompasses the two villages of New Aberdour and Pennan - as well as a sizeable rural hinterland.
